MERJ have called for a demonstration at the Greek Embassy in Dublin protesting the war on migrants that are trapped in the Greek-Turkish border!

Turkey: Before opening borders, the Turkish state have killed and attacked many refugees from moving out of Syria under EU deal. To pressure EU attack against Russia & Assad, Turkey has opened up borders leading many refugees in Idlib to cross into Greece.

Below is a summary of major events after Turkey announced it will not prevent migrants from passing the borders to Europe.

The Greek state: Has deployed major military and police forces to the Evros land border beating up and arresting people, throwing teargas and blue paint onto large groups of asylum-seekers trying to cross. Reportedly a man from Aleppo has been killed today by rubber bullets that hit him on the throat.

Has announced the suspension of the right to apply for asylum for a month and the immediate deportation without registration of migrants crossing the borders.

The Greek military:

Performed military exercises with live ammunition shot in straight direction across the Evros river on March 2.

Has announced a military exercise with live ammunition on Lesvos towards a sea area where most of the boats are crossing. This will be ongoing day and night, 24/7 until further notice.

The Greek coastguard:

Is preventing migrants to cross the sea boarder. They leave boats in distress, actively push them back or sink them.

The Greek racists and nationalists:

Have been preventing migrants to disembark from boats. Burned down a reception area for migrants in Sykanmia, Lesvos. Have attacked NGO workers, journalists and people in solidarity in Lesvos and Orestiada near Evros. Organise the material support to the military and police near the land border.

The EU:

Supports Greece. The Prime Minister will be visiting the border region of Evros on Tuesday, with the leaders of the European Union’s top three institutions – European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President David Sassoli. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen twitted: “Our top priority at this stage is to ensure that Greece and Bulgaria have our full support. We stand ready to provide additional support including through #Frontex on the land border”
